Cassandra Lawson Atkins and others, and Fifty-Two Thousand Five Hundred and Sixty-One (52,561) Acres of Land, more or less in Rockingham County, Virginia, court case initiated by the state of Virginia in order to acquire 52,561 acres of privately held land located within the northern Blue Ridge Mountains.&nbsp;</span> The Virginia government in collaboration with the federal government, used condemnation, a process that involves the seizure of an individual's private property for public use, without the owner’s consent, but with payment of compensation, and more formally known as “eminent domain,” to create the Shenandoah National Park. In consideration of which the said Peter Blawser Jun binds himself his heirs executors or administrators to the said Solomon or his successor overseer of the poor to teach or instruct or cause to be taught or instructed the said Adam in the art trade or mystery of a wagonmaker during said term and moreover to find him in good and sufficient clothing, meat, drink, washing, and lodging fit and convenient for such an apprentice during said term and at the end of his service shall pay and satisfy to the said Adam Welch twenty dollars, that being the freedom dues allowed by the court. And further the said Blawser binds himself to the said Solomon or to his successor overseer of the poor to give to the said Adam Welch three months schooling in the time of his apprenticeship, and at the end there of dollars.
