Title A name given to the resource Madison County SNP Records: Court Proceedings Description An account of the resource The first series in the Madison County SNP Records collection consists of 363 files related to the court proceedings from The State Commission on Conservation and Development of the State of Virginia v. D.F. Anderson and Others, and Fifty-Five Thousand Acres of Land, More or Less, in Madison County, Virginia. This was a court case initiated by the state of Virginia in order to acquire privately held land located within the boundary of Madison County in the northern Blue Ridge Mountains. Within the boundaries of eight counties, the state of Virginia, in collaboration with the Federal government, used eminent domain condemnation, a process that involves the seizure of an individual's private property for public use, without the owner’s consent, but with payment of compensation to create the Shenandoah National Park. The documents in this collection are the legal proceedings for each individual tract of land that made up the one court case. In most cases, the individual case files consist of property surveys, assessments for the value of the land and improvements, and claims by the owner of the property. Deeds of conveyance to the United State s of America of lands acquired by the State Conunission on Conservation and Development for public park purposes have been prepared, and approved by the Attorney General of Virginia , and tentatively approved by the Solicitors for the u. s. Department of the Interior . The principal deed, which will be recorded in each of the eight counties in the Park area contains one huii'dred and-r!fty-four typewritten pages , legal cap . A separate deed for certain lands in Warran, Rappahannock, and Greene has also been prepared, at the request of the Federal Park Authorities, and approved by the Attorney General of Virginia , and contains one hundred and forty-four typewritten pages, legal cap; but this separate deed will be recorded only in the Counties of Warren, Rappahannock and Greene . Another separate deed covering lands in Warren County at the entrance to the Park, acquired by deeds of sale from a number of private owners , has also been prepared and approved, but this deed will be recorded only in the County of Warren . Title A name given to the resource Rappahannock County SNP Records: Court Proceedings Description An account of the resource The first series in the Rappahannock County SNP Records collection consists of 350 files related to the court proceedings from The State Commission on Conservation and Development of the State of Virginia v. Clifton Aylor and others, and Thirty-Seven Thousand Four Hundred (37,400) Acres of Land, more or less, in Rappahannock County, Virginia. This was a court case initiated by the state of Virginia in order to acquire privately held land located within the boundary of Rappahannock County in the northern Blue Ridge Mountains. Within the boundaries of eight counties, the state of Virginia, in collaboration with the Federal government, used eminent domain condemnation, a process that involves the seizure of an individual's private property for public use, without the owner’s consent, but with payment of compensation to create the Shenandoah National Park. The documents in this collection are the legal proceedings for each individual tract of land that made up the one court case. Clifton Aylor and others, and Thirty-Seven Thousand Four Hundred (37,400) Acres of Land, more or less, in Rappahannock County, Virginia. This was a court case initiated by the state of Virginia in order to acquire privately held land located within the boundary of Rappahannock County in the northern Blue Ridge Mountains. Within the boundaries of eight counties, the state of Virginia, in collaboration with the Federal government, used eminent domain condemnation, a process that involves the seizure of an individual's private property for public use, without the owner’s consent, but with payment of compensation to create the Shenandoah National Park. The documents in this collection are the legal proceedings for each individual tract of land that made up the one court case.
