1925, upon their oaths do present that George Herring, who was
heretofore on the 21st day of April, 1922, convicted of violati ng the Pro hi bi tion laws of the Commonweal th of Virginia, in
the Circuit Court of Rockingham County, Virginia, and who then
and there was sentenced to ray a fine of one hundred dollars
and to serve for a period of sixty da ys in jail, did, within
one year next prior to the finding o± this indictment, in the
said county of ~ockinghum, u11lawflllly and feloniously manufacture, sell, offer, keep, store ani expose for sale, give
away, dispenEe, transport, solicit, advertise and receive
orders ior ardent spirits, against the peace and dignity of
the Commonweal th of Virginia.

The first series of the Prohibition Records collection consists of all criminal case records associated with cases brought to the <strong>Rockingham County Circuit Court</strong> from 1916-1964. Not every individual was indicted for a criminal offense and many were simply judged as misdemeanors.
