Chancery Records Inventory
Within the Chancery Cases series, one can expect to find individual files corresponding to cases brought against a resident Rockingham County by another individual or corporation. The cases are typically comprised of a petition, complaint, bill, answer, decree, and depositions. Not every case will contain all documents, as over time the records were filed and refiled, resulting in loss of documentation. The Library of Virginia has digitized some of the Chancery records for Circuit Court of Rockingham County, which can be viewed here.
The second series of the Chancery Records collection houses all bound volumes related to the day to day running of the Chancery Court. This includes dockets, rule, order, appeal, execution and memorandum books.
