Description
The volume consists of the minutes of annual and special meetings of the Association from its founding in 1933 through at least 1974, together with occasional financial reports, committee reports, correspondence copied into the record (e.g., letters to the Virginia Advisory Legislative Council and to circuit judges), memorial resolutions on the deaths of members, and printed ephemera bound in (a 1948 memorial-service program). Recurring subjects include the adoption and revision of a schedule of minimum attorney's fees and a canon of professional ethics; the Association's endorsement or opposition to candidates for the Circuit Court, County/Trial Justice Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, and Supreme Court of Appeals of Virginia; opposition to proposed redistricting of the 25th Judicial Circuit (Rockingham and Page Counties); the decades-long establishment, funding, and eventual relocation discussions for the L. L. (Laird L.) Conrad Memorial Law Library; memorialization of two members who died in World War II military service; and the Association's social traditions (annual banquets and, from the mid-1950s, an annual picnic). A detailed name, place, and subject guide keyed to page numbers appears as an appendix to this description.
