A marriage register covering the marriages of African Americans during the years 1865-1867. Until the end of the Civil War marriages between slaves were not legally recognized. These documents represent some of the first official marriages between African Americans in Augusta County, VA. The original title of the book has been kept for historical context. This book was digitized as a part of a grant from the Library of Virginia. A physical copy of the book can be viewed in the deed room at Augusta County Circuit Court.
